Building Buddies brings summer holiday fun to Derbion

We’re thrilled to announce that Building Buddies is making its UK shopping centre debut at Derbion from Wednesday 3rd – Tuesday 30th August, providing a hands-on, interactive play area which invites children to explore, collaborate, create, and learn in a building-themed role-play event throughout the summer holidays!

Children will be equipped with mini hard hats and high-vis vests and will discover new skills and push the boundaries of their logical thinking through interactive discovery play in seven building-themed zones. It will provide heaps of fun throughout the summer come rain or shine.

The activity will run from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30 am to 4 pm on Sunday, with four quiet sessions running throughout each week Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, and Sundays 10:30 am-11:00 am. 30-minute slots for Building Buddies can be secured for just £5 per child.

  • What is Building Buddies?
    Building Buddies is an educational, playful, and interactive event that imitates a small community where everybody gets involved to help make their home a better place to live.

    Different characters invite the children to play, explore, collaborate, create, and learn while having fun in 7 core areas. Children will be able to learn through a hands-on experience which encourages them to plan, renovate, decorate, paint, tile, build and more.
  • Where is Building Buddies located?
    It is located on level 1 outside Boots and Build- a- Bear.
  • How do I buy tickets for Building Buddies?
    Tickets can be purchased in advance through the booking link above or a limited number of tickets can be purchased in Centre at the Building Buddies Event space each day.

    We recommend you book in advance as tickets are limited per day and are likely to get booked quickly. Tickets cannot be refunded or transferred to another date.

  • Can I book tickets at the customer service desk?
    Tickets booked on the day will need to be booked through your own device or through the iPad located at the Building Buddies event and paid via debit or credit card.

    There will be very limited tickets that can be booked this way, and this might mean that you don’t get to attend the event at your preferred time. We recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
  • Will I receive a ticket once I have booked?
    Once you have placed your booking, you will receive an e-mail which will include your booking reference confirmation of payment and your E-ticket.
  • Do I need to print my tickets, or can I just bring them on my phone or mobile device?
    You can bring your ticket confirmation with you either printed out or on your mobile device.
  • Do adults need a ticket?
    This event is recommended for children between 3-12 and therefore adults will not need a ticket.
  • When should I arrive?
    We recommend arriving 10 minutes prior to your booked time to allow time for checking in and to ensure your visit runs to time. Please do not arrive before this time in order to help us minimise queues to enter the experience.
  • Can we take photographs?
    You can take personal photos of your children while they are in the Building Buddies event.
  • What age is Building Buddies for?
    This experience is recommended for children between 3-12 years of age but we would believe you should decide if the event would suitable for your child.
  • Do you have toilets in the Building Buddies site?
    There are no toilets in Building Buddies, the nearest toilets and baby changing facilities are located nearby on level 1 opposite Sainsburys. It is advised to visit the toilet before entering.
  • Can my child eat and drink in Building Buddies?
    We ask that you don’t eat or drink while in Building Buddies site.
  • Will my child get messy?
    No need to bring a spare pair of clothes, Building Buddies let’s your child have all the fun of learning a messy trade without the mess of it all!
  • I am bringing a buggy, is there somewhere to leave it out of the way?
    We have a designated buggy park right next to the event, please make sure you tick them out the way and remember any valuable are left at your own risk.
  • Can I drop my child off for the event while I go shopping?
    No. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event, and they will be fully responsible for the child in their care.
  • I’ve left something, where will it be?
    All items that are left behind will be kept safe by our Building Buddies site manager until the end of the day, after this it will be taken to our Customer Service team.
  • Is there wheelchair access?
    There is space for a wheelchair in the Building Buddies event area, however this may become tight if the session is at max capacity. We do have reduced capacity sessions Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday each week if you think this would work better for your child.
  • Is Building Buddies suitable for children with disabilities and will the staff act accordingly if necessary?
    Building Buddies is suitable for children with a range of disabilities, we do recommend that you talk to the event supervisors before the session starts.

  • Does Building Buddies offer Autism Friendly sessions?
    At Building Buddies, we have dedicated sessions on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday between 10:30-11:00.

    These sessions will be smaller group sizes to accommodate for children that need the building site to be a little less busy.

    We also know in these sessions some children may require the extra support of their parents so you will be able to come in during this time.
