Bodycare is Back at Derbion
Bodycare has returned and is unlike any Bodycare you’ve shopped before.
For more than 55 years, the health and beauty retailer has built a reputation for offering everyday essentials at great value prices. Now, the new Derbion store combines exceptional value with discovery, entertainment, community engagement and content creation, creating a new blueprint for modern high street retail.
One of the biggest attractions is the store’s extensive K-Beauty collection. Korean skincare has become a social media phenomenon, but for many people it can feel expensive and confusing to get started.
Bodycare stocks more than 20 Korean skincare brands, including Beauty of Joseon, COSRX, TIRTIR, Torriden, SKIN1004, Haruharu Wonder, Biodance, Medicube and numbuzin. With sheet masks starting from just £2 and most products priced between £7 and £16, the range makes K-Beauty far more accessible.
The entire Korean skincare routine is clearly laid out, from oil cleanser through to sunscreen, with signage explaining the purpose of each step. And if a ten-step routine sounds overwhelming, the advice from the Bodycare team is simple: start with one step and build from there.
Then there’s the Creator Studio, and there’s nothing else quite like it in Derby. Located inside the store, this professional content creation space features high-quality lighting, cameras and sound equipment, and it’s completely free to use.
Local content creators, community groups and aspiring influencers are all welcome to book the studio, with support from a full-time Executive Producer based in store. Whether you’re creating your first video or already have an established audience, the equipment and expertise are there to help.
Beauty at Bodycare extends well beyond skincare. The store offers an expanded selection of cosmetics, fragrances and wellness products, including the ever-popular Technic range, alongside expert skincare advice from the in-store team. There’s also a professional piercing studio for anyone looking to add a new piercing to their collection.
Beyond beauty, Bodycare remains a genuine everyday essentials retailer. Shoppers will find toiletries, haircare, oral care, bathroom essentials, a comprehensive baby range and men’s grooming products, all at the value prices the brand has always been known for.
With one of the widest K-Beauty ranges on the high street, a free professional content creation studio open to the local community, a professional piercing service and all the everyday essentials you need, Bodycare at Derbion is well worth a visit.
Whether you’re a skincare enthusiast, filming your first piece of content or simply picking up the basics, the Bodycare team can’t wait to welcome you in store.

To help you get ready for student life, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to the essentials you’ll need to create a comfortable, practical and welcoming home away from home. Better yet, you can find many of these must-haves at Derbion, making it easy to tick everything off your uni shopping list in one trip.
Create a Comfortable Home Away From Home
After a busy day of lectures, studying and socialising, having a comfortable space to relax and recharge is essential. Quality bedding is one of the most important purchases you’ll make before moving in.
Start with the basics, including a duvet, pillows, duvet covers, fitted sheets and pillowcases. Having at least two sets of bedding will make laundry days much easier. A cosy blanket or throw can also help make your room feel more personal and inviting, especially during the colder months.
You’ll also need a selection of towels, including bath towels, hand towels and face cloths. If you’re moving into accommodation with shared bathrooms, a bathrobe and a pair of comfortable slippers can make those early morning trips down the corridor much more convenient.

Kitchen Basics: Get Ready for Student Cooking
Whether you’re an experienced cook or you’re learning for the first time, having the right kitchen essentials will make mealtimes much easier.
Start with everyday items such as:
- Plates and bowls
- Mugs and glasses
- Cutlery
- Cooking utensils
- Chopping boards
- Baking trays
- Saucepans and frying pans
Many student accommodations share kitchen facilities, so it’s worth labelling your belongings to avoid confusion.
A few additional items can quickly become student favourites. A toastie maker is perfect for quick lunches, while microwave-safe containers make storing leftovers and meal prep simple. Reusable water bottles and insulated flasks are also great for staying hydrated and keeping drinks warm during long days on campus.
Don’t forget practical extras such as kitchen towels, washing-up liquid, food storage containers and freezer bags. These smaller items are easy to overlook but can make everyday life much more convenient.

Study Space Essentials: Set Yourself Up for Success
University life requires a balance between studying, socialising and self-care. Creating an organised and comfortable study space can help you stay productive throughout the academic year.
While most student accommodation includes a desk and chair, adding a few accessories can make your study area more effective. Consider stocking up on:
- Notebooks and stationery
- Highlighters and sticky notes
- Desk organisers
- Calendars or planners
- Storage boxes and baskets
A good desk lamp is particularly important during darker evenings and late-night revision sessions. You may also want to consider ergonomic accessories such as a laptop stand or a supportive desk chair cushion to improve comfort during extended study periods.
For those living in busy accommodation, noise-cancelling headphones can be a game-changer. They can help minimise distractions while studying and are equally useful for commuting or relaxing between lectures.

Storage Solutions: Make the Most of Your Space
Student rooms aren’t always known for their generous storage, so making smart use of the space available is key.
Under-bed storage boxes are ideal for keeping seasonal clothing, spare bedding and less frequently used items neatly tucked away. Hanging organisers, wardrobe storage solutions and drawer dividers can also help maximise every inch of space.
Keeping your room organised not only makes it easier to find what you need but can also create a more relaxing environment that’s conducive to studying and unwinding.
Health & Wellbeing: Looking After Yourself Matters
Amid the excitement of university life, it’s important not to overlook your health and wellbeing. Living independently often means taking greater responsibility for your day-to-day routine, and being prepared can make things much easier.
Stock up on everyday toiletries, including shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste and skincare products. It’s also worthwhile keeping a basic first aid kit on hand containing plasters, antiseptic cream and pain relief medication.
If you regularly take vitamins, supplements or prescription medication, make sure you have enough supplies when moving in and know where your local pharmacy is located.
Other wellbeing essentials that students often find useful include:
- Reusable water bottles
- Hot water bottles
- Eye masks and earplugs
- Exercise equipment or yoga mats
- Healthy snacks for busy study days
Establishing healthy habits early can help you maintain a balanced lifestyle throughout the year.

Getting ready for university doesn’t have to be stressful. From bedroom essentials and kitchen basics to study supplies and wellbeing products, finding everything you need in one convenient location can make preparing for move-in day much easier.
Whether you’re shopping for your first year in halls or returning for another academic year, Derbion has a fantastic range of stores to help you get university-ready. So before the big move, visit Derbion and stock up on all the essentials you’ll need to create the perfect student home away from home.
Good luck with your university journey, and enjoy every moment of this exciting new adventure.

From travelling abroad and discovering a love for frozen yoghurt, to taking the leap into business ownership at 27, YOSWIRL founder Joana Richardson, is preparing to bring a brand-new dessert experience to Derby. Following her success in this year’s Hatch initiative, we caught up with the entrepreneur behind the self-serve frozen yoghurt concept to hear about her journey so far, what customers can expect when YOSWIRL opens at Derbion, and her ambitions for the future.
Firstly, congratulations on winning this year’s Hatch initiative! Can you tell us about YOSWIRL, where the idea came from, and the journey the business has been on so far?
Thank you! YOSWIRL is a self-serve frozen yoghurt experience built around creativity, choice and bringing people together. The idea came from my love of frozen yoghurt when I travelled abroad and noticing that there wasn’t really anything like it in Derby. I wanted to create somewhere fun, interactive and accessible where people could spend time together, make memories and enjoy creating something that’s completely their own.
I’ve always wanted to start my own business. I’m naturally very creative and have always had lots of ideas, but YOSWIRL was the one I kept coming back to. At 27, I decided to leave my job and take the leap. It’s definitely been scary at times, but seeing the empty unit transform, watching the machines arrive and creating our very first swirl has made it all feel incredibly real.
It’s truly been a collaborative effort from friends and family to bring YOSWIRL to life, and I’m so excited to finally share it with Derby.
The flavours and toppings on offer sound delicious. Can you tell us more about what visitors can expect in-store?
Visitors can expect a completely personalised frozen yoghurt experience. Customers can choose their swirl, add their favourite toppings and create something completely unique to them. We’ll have classic frozen yoghurt flavours including Original and Strawberry, alongside fun options such as Cookies & Cream, fruity flavours and a plant-based option too. Our toppings bar has something for everyone, from fresh fruit and granola to fun sauces and sweet treats.
With my background and master’s degree in nutrition, I’ve always been passionate about helping people build a positive relationship with food. For me, it’s about balance, choice and enjoying food without guilt. Whether someone creates a fruit-filled bowl or a fully loaded treat, I want people to enjoy the freedom of making a sweet treat exactly how they like it.
What would you say makes YOSWIRL unique?
YOSWIRL is about so much more than frozen yoghurt, it’s about the experience. Every part of the new space has been designed with the customer in mind, offering the chance to create your own personalised swirl, and discover our Swirl Studio (which will be revealed on launch day!).
We also have a children’s area and exciting plans for birthday celebrations, events and collaborations with local community groups. I’m naturally a really chatty, bubbly person and I want everyone who walks through the door to feel genuinely welcome. I hope people leave with more than just a frozen yoghurt, I hope they leave smiling, having made a memory and excited to come back again.
What is the ultimate goal for the brand?
My biggest goal is to build a brand that people genuinely love. I’d love YOSWIRL to become somewhere people automatically think of for birthdays, after-school treats, catch-ups with friends or family days out. Looking ahead, I’d love to continue growing YOSWIRL, whether that’s through festivals, a food truck or future locations. I hope YOSWIRL proves a local idea can grow into something really special.
What made you want to apply for Derbion’s Hatch initiative?
Opportunities like Hatch don’t come around very often. As a first-time business owner, opening a physical shop in such an amazing location is a huge step, and Hatch gave me the chance to introduce YOSWIRL to Derby in a way that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
It felt like the perfect opportunity to test a completely new concept in the area, meet customers and hopefully create something people genuinely enjoy.
How did it feel to find out that you had won this year’s Hatch competition?
Honestly, I cried! I went into the process with an idea I was incredibly passionate about, but I had no idea whether anyone else would believe in it. Finding out that Derbion loved YOSWIRL as much as I do made everything suddenly feel possible.
The first person I told was my boyfriend. He’s believed in me and the idea from the very beginning and has helped bring so much of YOSWIRL to life.
How has the experience of preparing your store at Derbion been so far?
It’s been exciting, challenging and a huge learning experience. There’s so much that goes into opening a business that people don’t always see, from choosing suppliers and testing recipes to transforming the store to be ready for opening day.
Watching the space gradually come to life has been incredibly rewarding, and now that launch is so close, it’s all starting to feel very real.
What would be your advice for anyone considering applying for next year’s Hatch initiative?
Go for it! You don’t need to have everything figured out before you apply. If you genuinely believe in your idea, that’s the most important place to start.
Hatch has given me an opportunity I never imagined I’d have, and it’s shown me that sometimes you just have to believe in yourself and take that first step. You never know where it might lead!
With opening day fast approaching, YOSWIRL is set to become the latest exciting addition to Derbion’s line-up of independent brands. As this year’s Hatch winner prepares to welcome her first customers, visitors can look forward to a fun, interactive experience that’s built around creativity, community and making memories, one swirl at a time.
Every traveller is different, but one thing remains the same: the right accessories can make a journey more comfortable, organised and enjoyable. Here’s our guide to some of the travel accessories worth packing this summer.

If you’re spending your days discovering new cities, comfort is key. Consider a lightweight crossbody bag, portable charger, comfortable trainers and a compact umbrella to stay prepared for changing weather.

Beach bags, waterproof phone pouches, flip-flops, sunglasses and sun hats should all be at the top of your list. These simple accessories can make days by the sea more comfortable and enjoyable.
