Derby City Lab – Customer Assistant (2x)

Description:

Established in 2022, the national award-winning Derby City Lab is a public-private partnership between Marketing Derby, Derbion, University of Derby, Lathams, Clowes Developments and Derby City Council.

The City Lab is based on the concept of Urban Rooms in cities such as London, Amsterdam and Shanghai. The Lab houses the Derby City Model and hosts a rolling programme of dynamic exhibitions and discussion groups focused on ideas to regenerate Derby.

The Lab is a hub for engaging the wider community in better understanding the evolution of the city and investment pipeline.

Based in the heart of Derby city centre, the assistant will be front of house, welcoming visitors and answering questions about the Lab and the future development of the city, as well as providing support to the Marketing Derby team on administration and data processing as well as organising meetings and events within the dynamic space.

Position: Customer Assistant (x2)

Contract Type: Rolling contract with a two-week notice period

Working hours: Core hours are between 10/11am to 4/5pm.

Positions: 1 x 30 hours per week (Monday to Friday) and 1 x 11 hours (Saturday and Sunday), plus potential weekend work and overtime.

There may be the potential for working days to be flexible.

Pay Rate: £12 per hour

Start Date: End of February 2024

Key responsibilities include:

– Provide a first-class visitor experience at all times, assisting visitors with their questions/queries about the development of Derby;

– Actively and accurately deliver visitor information within the Lab using a range of resources including on site materials and digital facilities;

– Maintain records of visitor numbers and obtain feedback where necessary;

– Maximise opportunities to build ongoing audience engagement;

– Assist with the proper security of the Lab including keyholding duties with the responsibility for opening and closing the Lab (open daily);

– Ensure compliance with policies and procedures in the running of the Lab;

– Undertake daily cleaning and housekeeping tasks;

– Assist at events including private views and meetings;

– Working closely with Marketing Derby’s Lead on Derby City Lab to ensure smooth operation of the space;

– Undertaking other tasks for Marketing Derby to support wider company activities, at an appropriate level, such as but not limited to administration and data processing.

What we would love to see:

– Good interpersonal skills in a public-facing role, with the ability to make people feel welcome;

– The ability to deal effectively and professionally with questions about the plans for Derby’s future;

– Whilst previous knowledge of Derby’s regeneration plans is not required as full training will be provided, enthusiasm for the development of Derby in line with partners’ strategic priorities would be an advantage;

– Reliable, able to work independently and use own initiative in the day-to-day running of the Lab;

– Excellent customer service skills, willingness and flexibility to work during the week and weekends – hours to be agreed;

– Ability to build strong working relationships with the Marketing Derby team and other partners in the Lab.
