We’re excited to share that Primark will open a brand-new curated store at Derbion in 2027, marking the next chapter in the much-loved brand’s long relationship with Derby. The move will see Primark relocate from its current Cornmarket location to a prominent new space at the heart of our centre, bringing an elevated shopping experience to visitors. Until then, Primark will continue to trade as usual from its existing site.
The upcoming store will feature an enhanced look and feel, showcasing the very best of Primark’s clothing and accessories, alongside its popular Home and Beauty collections. Situated on Level 1, the new store will benefit from its own dedicated entrance directly from Albion Street, giving customers a convenient new way to enter both the store and the centre. This forms part of our ongoing development of Albion Walk, designed to prepare the space for Primark’s arrival and further enhance the overall visitor experience.
Primark has a proud history in Derby. The retailer opened its first-ever store in Great Britain right here in the city in 1974, and has since become a much-loved destination for shoppers across the East Midlands and beyond. Today, Primark operates 198 stores across the UK, and continues to play an important role in Derby’s retail community.
To make way for the new store, we’ve been working closely with retailers in the Albion Walk area to support them in relocating to new spaces within Derbion. Brands such as Superdrug, H. Samuel, The Perfume Shop and Iceland have already completed moves and are seeing an uplift in visits and sales at their new locations, strengthening our vibrant retail mix.
Beth McDonald, Managing Director of Derbion, said: “Welcoming Primark to Derbion is a major and exciting milestone. Primark has been part of Derby’s history for over 50 years, and we’re thrilled to be part of the next chapter in the brand’s continued story in the city.
“We can’t wait for their opening, which we’re confident will attract shoppers from across the region to experience everything Derbion has to offer.
“The highly anticipated announcement marks another key development in the ongoing evolution of Derbion, reinforcing our commitment to creating a vibrant and dynamic retail and leisure destination for visitors.”
Philippa Nibbs, Director of Sales for South & East Region at Primark UK, said: “We’re very proud of our long-standing presence in Derby, with over 50 years of bringing local shoppers our great value fashion, beauty and homeware, creating jobs for local people and supporting the wider community.
“Our move to Derbion in 2027 will mark an exciting new chapter in our journey and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our new store. In the meantime, we are open as usual on Cornmarket and look forward to sharing more updates with our customers and colleagues in the coming months.” We’ll be sharing more news on Primark’s new Derbion store as development progresses so stay tuned!
